Responsive design refers to the design of a user interface (usually a website or web interface) that adapts to the display device being used. The biggest difference is often the size of the available display area - for example, when switching between a large monitor at the desk and using a smartphone on the go. The arrangement of individual information and sometimes the design of control elements must be adapted. The goal is to create optimal operation for a variety of devices. Even though this principle has established itself as a de facto standard for (web) interfaces, it still represents a considerable additional effort in development! In fact, a flexibly designed layout still needs to be created and adapted for a variety of output devices.
This de facto standard is usually significantly underestimated in terms of effort!
As developers of custom software, we also rely on validating our work through automated tests. This means that for desired or essential functionalities, we create a test that can be executed automatically and checks whether a complex function actually delivers the desired result. This may sound trivial at first, and the increased expenditure of time and money seems unjustified. But our many years of experience show that this effort is definitely worthwhile - especially if you are interested in long-term use and expansion of your system. Such tests come into play whenever you add a new function (feature) to an existing program, expand a function in its scope and complexity, or fix a bug. In such cases, previously created tests validate that all the original functionalities still work flawlessly. This approach should be applied especially to critical systems, as it ensures that your IT solution continues to function flawlessly and does not create new problems.
The keyword accessibility primarily represents a social responsibility to ensure that people with physical limitations can use digital offerings and tools without restrictions. These could be blind or deaf people, for example. There are a variety of technical and editorial ways to improve the accessibility of applications and content. Often, addressing this topic also goes hand in hand with improving usability for all users. However, designing an IT solution for all user groups involves increased effort. Public institutions and services are even legally obligated (across Europe) to provide barrier-free design. Conformity tests according to BITV or WCAG check the degree of accessibility and reveal inadequacies in information and functions for people with disabilities.

Helm & Walter IT-Solutions was founded in summer 2008 by Bernd Helm in cooperation with Daniel Walter during their studies at FHDW Dresden.
Since 2010, we have been working together full-time as individual entrepreneurs under the name Helm & Walter IT-Solutions.
Since January 1, 2014, we operated under the name Helm & Walter IT-Solutions GbR.
On May 1, 2025, we took the next step and transformed our company into Helm & Walter IT-Solutions GmbH. Simultaneously, we relocated to our new, more spacious office premises at Einsteinstraße 6 in Dresden's Südvorstadt district, providing optimal working conditions for our growing team.
Helm & Walter is characterized by great technical expertise and craftsmanship in the field of server and cloud administration as well as programming. We are always looking for active support in all our fields of activity and technology areas.
